How JokerPrice looks, moves and speaks, and the files to use when you write about it or build with it. Please use the files as supplied.

The idea

A host’s calendar is a hand of cards: most nights follow the market, and a few are worth far more than they look.

Every night has a price. Some nights are jokers.

Weekend nights, Eid, Riyadh Season, the Dubai Shopping Festival and the week of a big conference are jokers. JokerPrice reads the market every day, finds them and prices every night in the calendar.

The card table

Baloot and other hand games are played at home and in the majlis. We take the card’s shape and its mirrored corner indices, never casino imagery: no chips, felt, dice, slot reels or betting language.

Sadu weaving

Al Sadu, the Bedouin weaving of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, made the bayt al-shaʿar, the tent where Arabian hospitality began. We take its colours and its diamond, the ʿayn or eye. The diamond is also a card suit, which is where the two traditions meet.

The mark

The night card: a madder card with the Sadu diamond in its centre and the same rank in both languages at its corners.

The JokerPrice mark: a red portrait card with a white diamond, a J in the top corner and a ج in the bottom corner
Card
Portrait 5:7, with a corner radius of 14% of its width, filled with madder.
Diamond
A white diamond with a smaller madder diamond inside it: the ʿayn, or eye, of Sadu weaving.
Corner indices
A Latin J at the top start corner and an Arabic ج at the bottom end corner, like a real card’s two corners. The ج stays upright, because turned it reads as a 2.

Sizes

From 64 px the mark carries its indices. At 32 px and smaller they are dropped and the diamond grows; at 16 px the eye closes so the diamond stays crisp.

Don’t

  • Put gradients, sheen or shadows on the mark.
  • Tilt it, except in motion.
  • Use an outline-only version or recolour the diamond.
  • Turn or mirror the corner indices.

Lockups

The mark sits before the wordmark in reading order: on the left in English and on the right in Arabic. The wordmark is jokerprice in lower case, set in Readex Pro 600.

Clear space

Keep space around a lockup at least the width of the diamond, free of text and other graphics.

Minimum size

Keep a lockup at least 24 px tall on screen and 8 mm tall in print, and the mark alone at least 16 px.

Writing the name

JokerPrice is one word with a capital J and P. In Arabic, write جوكر برايس. The lower-case jokerprice appears only in the logo.

Colour

The palette comes from Sadu weaving and the card table. Each ratio is measured against the colour it is paired with, and every pair used for text passes WCAG AA (4.5:1).

Neutrals

Warm greys derived from Bayt, for lines and secondary text. Lines carry no text, so they have no ratio.

Text pairs

The pairs the site sets text in, measured in both themes. In the dark theme the canvas is Bayt, and madder, saffron and palm lift so their text still passes.

Below, typical, above

Where a price sits in its market is a diverging scale: palm below, a neutral for typical and madder above. Every pin also shows its price as text, so colour is never the only cue.

The night card

The card shape is reserved for nights. A card means one night and its price, so feature lists, plans and links are never drawn as cards.

  1. Sunday 1 November: 395 SAR
  2. Thursday 29 October: 470 SAR
  3. Friday 30 October: 545 SAR, the joker, 33% above the week’s median

Motion

Each page gets one orchestrated moment, except the homepage, which tells one story as you scroll. The coming week is dealt into a hand in 3D, each card 70 ms after the last with the joker last; then each card flies to its own night in the month below, and each section lifts into place as it arrives.

  1. Thursday 29 October: 470 SAR
  2. Friday 30 October: 545 SAR, the joker, 33% above the week’s median
  3. Saturday 31 October: 430 SAR

The homepage story

The homepage tells one story as the visitor scrolls, in five steps. Under reduced motion every step is simply in place.

  1. The hand, in 3DThe coming week is dealt into a fanned hand in perspective, 70 ms apart, with the joker last.
  2. The hand becomes the monthAs the page scrolls, each card leaves the hand and lands on its own night in the month below. The joker lands last.
  3. Sections enter with depthPanels lift from a slight tilt, rows slide in from the start side and bars grow, each settled a third of the way up the window.
  4. The Atlas board flattensDistrict circles lie on a tilted board with their price pins standing up, and the board turns to face the reader.
  5. Background and chromeA Sadu-diamond lattice drifts behind the hero, and the header turns solid over the first 88 px.

Everything else moves only in answer to the visitor: opening, expanding, confirming. Only transform and opacity animate, and with reduced motion the cards are simply there.
